What it is

The Family 42 Show gives every Cub Scout in Pack 42 a supportive, low-pressure way to share something they love, and a little of who they are, with the whole pack.

Scouts can do a short act, solo, with their den, or as a family, and every Scout decorates a fabric square about themselves. The squares are put together to create the Family 42 quilt, so the Pack's belonging becomes something it can see and keep. There are no auditions or judging, and we win together.

It's Scouting we can see. The uniform shows that a Scout is part of a team. The Family 42 Show lets the team see the person in it, what each Scout loves and does well, and that is how a Pack becomes a family.

A game with a purpose

The Family 42 Show helps every child discover they have something worth sharing, while families practice the courage, kindness, and service at the heart of Scouting.

The acts are the game. The purpose is giving children practice at being brave, encouraging other people, taking responsibility, and belonging to a group that needs them.

Many ways to participate

A Scout can do either, both, or participate through a helper job. The two paths carry equal weight on purpose, so nobody gets sorted into talented and everyone else.

Showtime

Perform or demonstrate something: an instrument, a few jokes, a magic trick, a skit, a dance, a sport skill, a drawing, a collection. Short slots, and every act counts.

Family 42

Every Scout decorates a same-size square answering one gentle prompt, then chooses how it's shown: say a line about it, have someone read it out, or just have it displayed. Performers make a square too.

The Family 42 quilt

The squares are joined into one quilt each year, so the Pack's belonging becomes something it can see and keep. Each year's quilt joins the last, and over time a row of them becomes the Pack's history.

Every square is in this quilt because every one of us is part of Family 42, and Family 42 is better because you're in it.

Everyone brings something.

Everyone belongs.

Every Cub Scout in Pack 42, kindergarten through grade 5, and their families. Siblings, friends, and families curious about Cub Scouting are welcome to come and watch.
